Metric – Fantasies

16 04 2009

Four years and a soul-searching trip to Argentina later, we get the much-anticipated new studio release from Metric, whose latest album Fantasies dropped on Tuesday. There’s a couple forgettable songs, but overall I think it’s a solid record, with pockets of greatness. The star of the show, as always, being Haines’s voice/songwriting. The slower/more restrained moments on the album are where its at for me…standout tracks being “Collect Call”, “Blindness”, and of course “Help I’m Alive”. Didn’t think “Help..” could get any better, but it did once The Twelves got their hands on it (also, check out the acoustic version on the band’s website).

Rich Girls + The Twelves

In honor of Gossip Girl coming back on (finally!)..we have Donald Cumming’s (of The Virgins) attempt to verbally slay snobby Upper Eastsiders and the like, as remixed by The Twelves who give the song just the kick it needs.

I love The Twelves – they’ve really mastered the art of the subtle disco mix. Look, now you can even dance to a semi-gloomy Radiohead tune, but not feel like club kid extraordinaire. Ahh delicious balance.

And one more for the cheap seats in the back.
