Aeroplane Remixes

4 05 2009

Long overdue, just a little tribute to Belgian duo Stephen Fasano and Vito De Luca aka Aeroplane, who are among my favorite producers out there right now.

Fantastic disco mix of “Baby I Can’t Stop”, part of Norwegian producer Lindstrom‘s ongoing effort with Solale, their debut collaboration is expected to be released sometime this year. Meanwhile, II, Lindstrom’s second cooperative effort with Prins Thomas is out May 18.
Lindstrom & Solale – Baby I Can’t Stop (Aeroplane remix)

Amazing remix of Grace Jones’s autobiographical 2008 single “Williams’ Blood”. Hypnotic beat and what a narrative..this song never gets old.

Of course I have to post this one…everyone’s favorite remix of 2008. Totally transportive. “One day we’re gonna live in Paris, I promise, I’m on it.”
Friendly Fires – Paris (Aeroplane remix feat Au Revoir Simone)

One of their earlier singles, kaleidoscopic guitars and balearic beats..phenom.

Fan Death cover Goodbye Horses

3 05 2009

In honor of their Euro tour officially kicking off, Fan Death bring us their well done (and less androgynous) rendition of 80s classic “Goodbye Horses” by Q Lazzarus, best known for its perfect inclusion in the ultra creepy Buffalo Bill scene in Silence of the Lambs. Can’t decide which I like better – the song or the cover art?

The Golden Filter + Empire of the Sun

29 04 2009

Empire of the Sun had been on The Golden Filter‘s ‘coming soon’ remix list for a while, and now it’s finally out! I’m a fan of anything by either artist, so no complaints here. This will be their last mix for a while as they turn their attention to their own songs. I’m eagerly awaiting a full release so they can go on tour again, and I can relive the transcendental musical experience of seeing “Solid Gold” performed live. Check out a couple of their previous mixes here and here.

Golden Filter/Presets – Show Tonight

3 04 2009

The Presets show is tonight at Webster Hall, with The Golden Filter as openers..should be an awesome time (except for the fact that it’s 18+..meh). I have to admit, I wasn’t immediately taken by The Presets when I heard them last year – thought the vocals were a little too jarring, but I’ve since been sucked in and now..this girl’s in love. I’m even more amped for the mysterious wonder that is The Golden Filter, who’ve been pretty elusive until recently..couldn’t find so much as a picture floating around until after SXSW, so I’m excited to catch a live glimpse. And they have yet to disappoint me with their disco-infused songs/remixes (check out the brilliant “Lay it Down” remix here). As an added bonus, there’s gonna be a late show with MSTRKRFT and Bloody Beetroots afterwards.

Rich Girls + The Twelves

16 03 2009

In honor of Gossip Girl coming back on (finally!)..we have Donald Cumming’s (of The Virgins) attempt to verbally slay snobby Upper Eastsiders and the like, as remixed by The Twelves who give the song just the kick it needs.

I love The Twelves – they’ve really mastered the art of the subtle disco mix. Look, now you can even dance to a semi-gloomy Radiohead tune, but not feel like club kid extraordinaire. Ahh delicious balance.

And one more for the cheap seats in the back.

Hello Mr. Remix

8 02 2009

A few remixes I’m into lately…

German DJ Christian Vorbau of the King Kong Club amps up Franz Ferdinand’s “No You Girls”. Love the lyrics to this one..Flick your cigarette, then kiss me/ Kiss me where your eye won’t meet me/ Meet me where your mind won’t kiss me/ Flick your eyes and mind and then hit me/ Hit me with your eyes so sweetly

A more sinister take on PB&J’s “Lay It Down” (from new album Living Thing, due out March 31) by The Golden Filter, who I think will be one of my ’09 obsessions (check out their myspace to hear “Solid Gold” and “Moonlight Fantasy” which dropped late last year). It took me a couple listens to get really into it, but the production is fantastic and the last 2.5 minutes are phenom.

And last up, Gigamesh adds just the right touch to these songs.

Fan Death – Show Tomorrow Night

4 02 2009

Fan Death show Thursday night @ Le Royale!

fan-death

Fan Death is Canadian synthpop/disco duo Dandi and Marta, protege’s of electro DJ Erol Alkan. Part of 2008’s disco revival, seems like the pair is on course to really blow up this year. The boys at GvB recently gave them an honorable mention in a Most Likely to Succeed in ’09 ranking. Via Guardian “in a press release they declare their intention to be to ‘make music that recalls the greatest era of electronic pop: Depeche Mode, OMD, New Order, Human League, Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys. Great songs that happened to be electronic, not soulless, repetitious club music that seems to dominate these days.'” Below, their single released in December.
