Aeroplane Remixes

4 05 2009

Long overdue, just a little tribute to Belgian duo Stephen Fasano and Vito De Luca aka Aeroplane, who are among my favorite producers out there right now.

Fantastic disco mix of “Baby I Can’t Stop”, part of Norwegian producer Lindstrom‘s ongoing effort with Solale, their debut collaboration is expected to be released sometime this year. Meanwhile, II, Lindstrom’s second cooperative effort with Prins Thomas is out May 18.

Lindstrom & Solale – Baby I Can’t Stop (Aeroplane remix)

Amazing remix of Grace Jones’s autobiographical 2008 single “Williams’ Blood”. Hypnotic beat and what a narrative..this song never gets old.

Of course I have to post this one…everyone’s favorite remix of 2008. Totally transportive. “One day we’re gonna live in Paris, I promise, I’m on it.”

Friendly Fires – Paris (Aeroplane remix feat Au Revoir Simone)

One of their earlier singles, kaleidoscopic guitars and balearic beats..phenom.

The Golden Filter + Empire of the Sun

29 04 2009

Empire of the Sun had been on The Golden Filter‘s ‘coming soon’ remix list for a while, and now it’s finally out! I’m a fan of anything by either artist, so no complaints here. This will be their last mix for a while as they turn their attention to their own songs. I’m eagerly awaiting a full release so they can go on tour again, and I can relive the transcendental musical experience of seeing “Solid Gold” performed live. Check out a couple of their previous mixes here and here.

Circlesquare, Valerie Style

13 04 2009

It’s official, I’m no longer yearning for the halcyon days of yesteryear (at least not musically). 2009 has now brought me a tag team remix by beloved Valerie artists Russ Chimes + Anoraak, who go Bayside High all over Circlesquare‘s “Dancers” with awesome results. Circlesquare’s (aka Jeremy Shaw) minimalist album Songs About Dancing & Drugs (released back in January) is pensive, brooding, and occasionally bizarre..pretty much the perfect soundtrack for your subway ride.

More From SayCet

4 04 2009

Was a huge fan of the Radiohead and Anoraak remixes by sayCet, project of French composer Pierre Lefeuvre. Recently received a couple more equally awesome mixes from his management. First up, a mix of Panda Bear‘s “I’m Not” which I think fits right in with his style and second, an unexpected choice that actually ends up working really well – Phoenix‘s “1901″. Lovin it.

Golden Filter/Presets – Show Tonight

3 04 2009

The Presets show is tonight at Webster Hall, with The Golden Filter as openers..should be an awesome time (except for the fact that it’s 18+..meh). I have to admit, I wasn’t immediately taken by The Presets when I heard them last year – thought the vocals were a little too jarring, but I’ve since been sucked in and now..this girl’s in love. I’m even more amped for the mysterious wonder that is The Golden Filter, who’ve been pretty elusive until recently..couldn’t find so much as a picture floating around until after SXSW, so I’m excited to catch a live glimpse. And they have yet to disappoint me with their disco-infused songs/remixes (check out the brilliant “Lay it Down” remix here). As an added bonus, there’s gonna be a late show with MSTRKRFT and Bloody Beetroots afterwards.

Latest from Passion Pit

2 04 2009

New track from the ubiquitous Passion Pit, off their first full-length album Manners, slated for release May 19. Not as catchy as “Sleepyhead” but I still really like it. Sure to be a massive hit, preorder the album here. They’re playing at Bowery June 19 and 20..get on it before it’s sold out!

Still Have to Pack

28 03 2009

I’m off to Miami in a couple of hours and stoked to catch the last weekend of the Winter Music Conference. There’s gonna be a bunch of DJ shows tomorrow night, and after much convincing, my roommates finally agreed to come to the Fool’s Gold Records Party and potentially the Flosstradamus show at Heathrow Lounge. Why would they need to be persuaded to go to such awesome shows? Good question. The Fool’s Gold party is slated to feature among others, A-Trak and Treasure Fingers, which I’m most amped for, and a “surprise guest” or two. If the SXSW party is any indication, I’m guessing Kid Cudi might make an appearance? Fast times, here I come.

March Radness

19 03 2009

The greatest weekend of the year is upon us. I’ve got my bracket filled out – I’m lookin for West Virginia to make some upsets and I’ve got Memphis taking the whole affair. On to the music, here are some songs I’m into lately..

First up is electro/jazz band Hess is More, brainchild of Danish musician Mikkel Hess. Here’s a remix of “Yes Boss” by Brooklyn fave Pocketknife …a little creepy, very hypnotic.

Harmonic indie-rock from SoCal 5-piece Local Natives, from their soon to be released debut album Gorilla Manor. I think I like any song that features string instruments.

Upbeat music + morbid lyrics actually works in this super-catchy remix of Swedish group Miike Snow’s “Burial”. And the Treasure Fingers remix of “Animal”..love love love every mix he comes out with.

SayCet remixes

11 03 2009

Here’s a beautiful take on “Nude” brought to us by sayCet. I don’t really care for the original much, so I’d say mission accomplished. They were also included in Anoraak’s Nightdrive With You Remixes EP, which I was obsessed with last year. Check it out posthaste if you haven’t already.

And now I have an excuse to post my 2nd favorite song of 2008 – the Fear of Tigers remix of the same song.

Adam Kesher

8 03 2009

Everyone’s favorite six-man act from Bordeaux, France – Adam Kesher – dropped their latest EP Continent this past Monday. Check out the new song “Knock Myself Out” and others here. I love the lead singer’s voice, that’s the ticket for me. And I really want to catch these guys live..I’ve heard they put on a pretty rad show. And an interesting bit on the origin of the band name: “Adam Kesher is the name of the movie director in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive. He believes that there is no way that corruption and manipulation can be involved in his movies but in the end he’s being intimidated by the Hollywood mafia into casting an unknown blond confection into the title role. We thought that lots of rock’n’roll bands behave like that.”

Below, check out the fantastic remix of “Local Girls” (from last year’s From the Hills, Feeling Warm Inside) by The Shoes (also from France, so you know it’s gotta be good).
